Things to Know When Selecting a Repair Faciilty
- After your home, your car is the second largest investment you're likely to make. Preserve its value and your safety by having it repaired professionally.
- Never drive a car that could be unsafe because of damages.
- Some insurance companies may want you to visit their drive-in claims center or go to a shop of their choice. You can do this or you may leave your car at the collision repair shop of your choice and request the insurance company to inspect the car at that location.
- Your insurance company cannot require you to go to a particular shop.
- You are not required by law to obtain more than one estimate or appraisal.
- Ask for a written repair warranty.
- Differences in repair estimates are common. A lower estimate may not include all necessary work. If you're not sure why one estimate is different from another you've received, ask the shop manager for details.
- Choose a shop that has a Down Draft – Baking oven Spray booth, Mig Welding and uni-body Repair equipment. I-CAR or ASE certified Technicians.
- Ask if the shop will be using genuine manufacturer (OEM) replacement parts.
- New York State Dept. of Motor Vehicles requires all repair shops to be registered with the DMV and post their registration number at their place of business. Register complaints with the Department of Motor Vehicles and your Insurance Company. In some cases, Small Claims District Court may be an option to recover any funds in dispute.
